A natural and prevalent human emotion known as anxiety is characterised by feelings of fear, worry, or unease. It is a typical reaction to stress or a feared situation. However, anxiety may be a sign of an anxiety disorder if it becomes intense, persistent, and starts to interfere with daily life.


A set of mental health illnesses known as anxiety disorders entail excessive and ongoing anxiety. Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, particular phobias, and other disorders are only a few of the many ways they might show up.


Although each type of anxiety disorder has unique symptoms and causes, excessive and uncontrollable worry and fear are present in all of them.


Physical symptoms such a racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, sweating, shaking, tension in the muscles, and restlessness are frequent in people with anxiety disorders. Along with these symptoms, they may also struggle to focus, have trouble sleeping, and feel too aware or vigilant.


While feeling anxious in certain circumstances, such as before a big presentation or during a life-threatening event, is normal, anxiety disorders involve excessive and persistent worry and fear that can be crippling and have an adverse effect on a person's daily functioning, relationships, and quality of life in general.
